Since this Fosgate is relatively old, it will not have the current surround sound codecs to decode them, so it's a moot point. However, if you have a digital output on your laptop ( fiber or coax), then you could connect that to the Fosgate and would be able to decode standard DTS and DD. If you have a stereo output, the Fosgate can decode that to Dolby Pro-Logic II. For video, you could use the HDMI connection from the laptop to the TV for video only. Pro Logic, when implemented very, very well, was barely acceptable as an alternative to stereo sound on a soundtrack, and virtually never acceptable as music. Jim Fosgate developed Pro Plus (get it, Pro Logic Plus) independent of Dolby as he always does, working inside his head at home.
